I have a few backpacks and totes I use for travel- and try to pack the one I plan to take on my trip several days in advance. Travel Friendly Water Bottle
I always pack a water bottle in my personal item so I can fill it up at the airport or at my destination. I usually pack my Owala kids version water bottle- it fits easily in my bag!
